11 Day Vietnam and Laos Experience

As well as the classic destinations in Vietnam such as Hanoi and Halong Bay, you will also get to experience Ninh Binh, the capital city of ancient Vietnam before Hanoi. Ninh Binh is famous for spectacular scenery, including Tam Coc Caves and Hoa Lu with old 10th century temples. You will then fly over to Laos to discover one of the lesser travelled countries in Indochina. Starting in the capital, Vientiane before heading to stunning Vang Vieng for a caving & kayaking experience through magificant countryside and cave systems. Then proceed to Luang Prabang, a beautiful UNESCO World Heritage town nestled in a stunning setting amid lush mountains and home to sacred city of golden temples and saffron robed monks.

DAY 1: Hanoi Arrival

Your holiday to Laos and Vietnam begins in the bustling city of Hanoi, Vietnam. You will be picked up at the airport by a tour representative and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is free at leisure.

DAY 2: Hanoi ~ Halong Bay

Early morning pickup at 8:00am to journey through lush Vietnamese countryside to Halong Bay. On arrival we board the traditional junk boat for a memorable cruise among the hundreds of limestone islets of Halong Bay. During the cruise we stop at the 'Magnificent Cave' full of stalagmites and stalactites. Tuck in to a yummy seafood lunch and some water based activities such as swimming or kayaking. Spend the night onboard in your comfortable cabin and enjoy the peacefulness of the Bay.

DAY 3: Halong Bay ~ Hanoi

Start your new day with a sunrise Tai Chi lesson on top deck, soaking up the magnificent dawn as it glows across Halong Bay. Afterwards, enjoy breakfast as we cruise back to the main harbour. Brunch will be served before you disembark and travel back to Hanoi. Arrive back to Hanoi around 4 or 5pm. Spend the evening at leisure and visit the Old Town and street food markets.

DAY 4: Hanoi ~ Ninh Binh ~ Hanoi

Today we drive south of Hanoi to Ninh Binh, the capital city of ancient Vietnam before Hanoi took its leading role in the 11th century. Ninh Binh is famous for spectacular scenery, including Tam Coc Caves and Hoa Lu ancient capital with the old 10th century temples. The visit in Ninh Binh starts by a 2 hours serene boat trip in Tam Coc where spectacular limestone karats jut out from the green paddy fields similar to those in Guilin (China) and Halong Bay, which gives this scenery the name "Halong-bay-on-land". Head back to Hanoi in the afternoon and spend your evening at leisure.

DAY 5: Hanoi ~ Fly to Vientiane

After breakfast, enjoy free time until we transfer to the airport at midday for a flight to Vientiane, Laos.  Upon arrival you will be greeted at the airport and transferred to your hotel and spend the remainder of the day at your low leisure.

DAY 6: Vientiane City Tour

in the morning we will first visit Wat Si Muang, which is very famous for its supernatural power. We then transfer out to see the Buddha Park, an enchanting collection of Buddhist and Hindu sculptures on the Mekong Riverside meadow, close to Friendship Bridge. There are approximately 200 religious images dating back over 500 years, which were created by a mysterious monk spreading his philosophy on life and revealing his idea about the universe. In the afternoon we see the major sights of the capital; including Wat Sisaket, the temples with thousands of miniature Buddha statues and the former royal temple of Wat Prakeo, which previously housed the famous Emerald Buddha Images. On the way to Lao;s national icon, the famous and sacred structure of That Luang Stupa, we stop en-route to take some pictures of the imposing Patuxay Monument, which is well known as Vientiane's Arch de Triumph. A spectacular view over the Mekong River at sunset is a perfect way to finish the day

DAY 7: Vientiane ~ Vang Vieng by Bus

After breakfast our driver transfers you to the bus station to take the bus to Vang Vieng. Once in Vang Vieng take your own tuk tuk to your hotel for check in. Our guide will brief you and give you information before you leave Vientiane. The rest of the day is at your own leisure.

DAY 8: Vang Vieng ~ Caving & Kayaking Experience

After breakfast you will be picked up by a local guide from your hotel in Vang Vieng. After 14km transfer we first visit Tham Xang (Elephant Cave) that lies on the opposite banks of the Nam Song. It is an important Buddhist temple and owes its names to a remarkable limestone formation. The nearby Tham Hoi Cave (Snail Cave) winds its way deep in to the mountain. 45 mins of exploration through numerous long corridors with wonderful limetone formations. Another cool pool of spring water lies at the mount of the Tham Nam (water cave), also a good place for a swim. 

After a picnic lunch the trek to the Hmong Villages of Phathao passes through rice paddy fields and vegetable gardens. The trip back to Vang Vieng varies according to the level of the Nam Song. Descending Nam Song by kayak leads us through idyllic scenes of rural life: a unique sights with the limestone mountains in the background.

DAY 9: Vang Vieng ~ Luang Prabang by Bus

After breakfast our hotel concierge will assist you to arrange a tuk tuk to the bus station to catch the bus to Luang Prabang. Your tickets and instructions will be given to you by hotel concierge. Arrive in Luang Prabang in late afternoon and take your own tuk tuk to your hotel. Again, you will have been briefed before hand and given all details of the hotel.

DAY 10: Luang Prabang City Tour ~ Kuang Si Waterfalls

After breakfast you will be met at your hotel by a local guide and first off we will visit Royal Palace Museum, which hosts a range of interesting artefacts. Our next stop in the city is the magnificent Way Xiengthong with its roof sweeping low to the ground, which represents classical Laotian architecture. We will also take a look at the Traditional Art & Ethnology Centre to learn about the any Lao ethnic groups. We the visit Wat Visoun, dating back to 1513 during the reign of King Wisunarat (Visoun), this is Luang Prabang's oldest temples and was once home to the Prabang Bhuddas. We then visit Ock Pop Tock living craft centre where you will have a short tour to learn about the silk weaving process and the local women that work in the centre. In the afternoon we visit the beautiful Kuang Si Waterfalls where you can cool off with a refreshing swim in the pools or walk along the forest trails. You can also see up close Asiatic Bears at the Bear Rescue Centre along the jungle walk to the waterfall. Back in Luang Prabang we ascent the 329 steps to the top of Phousi Hill for a beautiful sunset view of the city and its glowing reflection on the Mekong River.

DAY 11: End of Tour

Your amazing holiday to Laos and Vietnam unfortunately comes to an end today. After breakfast and check out you will be transferred to the airport in time for you return flight home.
