The RV Paukan is a gem of a vessel, a compact but elegant vessel made of teak with a hull of marine steel. The walls and floors are of timber with each plank carefully chosen to showoff the beautiful grain. The décor is modern chic, with a touch of Myanmar culture through a few traditional motifs, wooden figures, fabrics and paintings.

 

All the cabins are nicely decorated and comfortable with ensuite bathrooms. The six Double Deluxe cabins on the upper deck have a balcony and French window, as do the eight Twin Deluxe cabins on the main deck. With the drapes pulled aside, there lay in front of your eyes the amazing the view of the river as it changes moods during different times of the day. There are also two single cabins on the upper deck.

 

The dining room with a capacity for 34 is a spacious hall on the main deck where every morning a lavish and scrumptious breakfast buffet is served. The other meals are prepared with loving care for freshness and incredible tastes by experienced chefs. If you are a vegetarian, inform the steward in advance. The lounge on the upper deck seats 16 and the open deck with a well stocked bar leading out from it seats 15. It is the perfect place to make new friends or to hold a party, if you are already with friends. The lounge is arranged and decorated tastefully with comfortable chairs, for groups of several people or in a more intimate setting.

DAY 1: Arrive Yangon

Begin your tour to Myanmar with a meet and greet at Yangon International Airport by our tour representative. You will be transferred to your hotel for check in and the rest of the day is free at your own leisure.

DAY 2: Yangon City Tour

Discover Yangon’s architectural heritage walking tour through the colonial capital of British Burma. Starting at Yangon’s Heritage Trust’s downtown office on lower Pansodan Road and ending at Bogyoke Aung san Market (formerly Scott Market), this route covers the city’s most important sites. Follow your guide through the city’s back roads and bustling neighbourhoods; take in the old fashioned charm of the restored Strand Hotel, relax in an elegant rattan chair and enjoy Burmese high tea in the marble lobby. Except Strand hotel other highlights include Sule Pagoda - located in the heart of downtown Yangon, occupying the centre of the city and an important space in contemporary Burmese politics, ideology and geography, City Hall, the High Court and former Burma Railways Company.  After lunch make your way to the circular train, where you’ll travel about a half an hour on this local railway that was once used by monks, locals and vendors. Learn about the Bogyoke Aung San Market before departing your train and exploring one of the city’s largest selections of Burmese handicrafts After the train ride proceed to visit the famed reclining Buddha (Chauk Htat Gyi) and also cannot miss Shwedagon Pagoda which is one of the world’s most spectacular monuments, the magical Shwedagon Pagoda, rises 326ft (99.3m) above its base. Erected more than 2500 years ago and enshrining eight hairs of Buddha placed in a treasure chamber deep under its base. It is the highest symbol of the people's devotion to Buddha. Evening at your own leisure.

DAY 3: Flight to Heho ~ InLe Lake

After breakfast we transfer to the airport for a short flight to Heho for InLe Lake. Upon arrival we take a traditional long boat and start exploring the magnificent InLe Lake, visiting traditional fisherman villages located directly on the lake and experience local life and way of living. Our tour includes visit of Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda, the holiest religious site in southern Shan State, boat construction workshop at Nampan village and Nga Phe Kyaung Monastery; one of the oldest monasteries on the lake.  After the tour return the resort for check in and relax.

DAY 4: InLe Lake Sightseeing

In the morning we visit the hidden village of Indein. This village is famous for its several ancient pagodas in many shapes and sizes. Enjoy a trip around the village to explore texture meticulously carved on arched- shape doors of each stupa and we get to enjoy a traditional home-cooked Lunch in private house. After lunch, continue the trail through scenic channels to enjoy breathtaking landscapes around the Lake as well observe the simple life of the natives on the lakeside. Along the way, you can see many floating gardens together with stilt villages of Intha people. Moving to Inpaw khone, a small village with teak stilt houses on the lakeside, where you have a chance to know more about the local traditional weaving technique, which remain unchanged for centuries. After that discover a cheroot factory and observe local Burmese roll cigars by hand. Return to your resort and enjoy the evening at your own leisure.

DAY 5: Flight to Bagan ~ Sightseeing

After breakfast you will be transferred to the airport for a short flight to Bagan. Upon arrival to Nyaung U Airport in Bagan direct transfer to Salay located about 35 km (1.5 hrs drive) south of Bagan for afternoon sightseeing tour. Visit some of Salay’s monasteries to get a glimpse the unique Theravada Buddhist traditions that infuse daily life for much of the country—including this deeply religious town of 10,000, which has around 50 monasteries. At Yoke Son Kyaung, the oldest surviving wooden monastery you’ll see carvings that depict court life, and dramatic scenes taken from the Ramayana, an ancient Indian epic poem. Tour the local market, and soak up the historic atmosphere of the town, whose many colonial buildings have been largely untouched, offering a window into Myanmar's British-ruled past. After the tour return back to Bagan and check-in to the hotel.

DAY 6: Temples of Bagan Sightseeing

Optional hot air ballon ride over the temples of Bagan at sunrise (Oct - April). Today we take an e-bike sightseeing tour of Bagan masterpieces Pagoda. We visit Shwezigon Pagoda, Ananda Temple & Htilominlo Pagoda. After lunch explore the Myinkaba Gu Byaukgyi Temple, a temple noteworthy for its mural painting under the protection of UNESCO and 30 min Horse cart ride. Late afternoon transfer to jetty and get on board of a traditional teak boat for 1 hour sunset cruise. After the tour transfer back to the hotel, and enjoy evening at your own leisure.

DAY 7: Embarkation on Luxury River Cruise

Breakfast at the hotel, then transfer to the jetty for morning embarkation on your luxury river cruise. You will check in to your cabin and enjoy a welcome cocktail while briefing in the saloon or sundeck. Enjoy a delicious lunch on board while we start cruising towards Mandalay. Relax as you watch the scenery float by with a drink in hand, followed by a delicious dinner.

DAY 8: Luxury River Cruise ~ Yandabo Village

Breakfast on board as we set sail on the road to Mandalay and then dock near Yandabo Village for a walking tour around the Village and meet the local people.  On 24 February 1826, the peace treaty of the first Anglo-Burmese War was signed at Yandabo. Today, it is a picturesque village famous for its pottery. As we take a leisurely walk through the village, we have the opportunity to stop at the various family homes and workshops, each with its own unique style and markings, to witness the making and firing of the Yandabo pottery, famous throughout Myanmar. Afternoon enjoy cruising along the river, read a book or soak up the sun on the sundeck. Lunch & Dinner on board.

DAY 9: Luxury River Cruise~ Dissembarkation ~ Mandalay

Enjoy you final breakfast on board before disembarkation in Sagaing at Gawein Jetty and transfer by car to Mandalay for a city tour. First we visit of Mahamuni Pagoda - a Buddhist temple and major pilgrimage site. Then, continue to the gold-leaf workshop & Zaycho market.  After lunch continue your visit to Mandalay Royal Palace, Kuthodaw Pagoda, a Buddhist stupa, that contains the world's largest book. It houses 729 marble slabs sculptured the teaching of Buddha. The last but not least, visit Shwenandaw (Golden Palace) Monastery known for its teak carvings of Buddhist myths, which adorn its walls and roofs. It is built in the traditional Burmese architectural style. Finally enjoy the sunset on top of Mandalay Hill. After the tour return to the hotel and evening at your own leisure.

DAY 10: Departure
