13 Day Borneo Explorer Tour

Discover both sides of beautiful Borneo with our 13 Day Borneo Explorer tour. Start in Sandakan and experience all the wildlife delights Sabah has to offer, including Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, Turtle Island National Park, Kinabatangan River and all the wildlife hotspots around Sandakan!


After this catch a short flight (not included) across to Kuching and get ready to delve into the wild side of Borneo; Sarawak. Similar to Sabah but much more off the beaten track, you will enjoy a more authentic experience of Borneo, staying in a traditional Longhouse and exploring Bako National Park for more weird and wonderful wildlife spotting of organutans, wild boar, monitor lizards and numerous species of birds.  Immerse yourself in local culture and cuisine with a river cruise to Sarikei and a drive through rice paddies and stunning countryside to a local village Ulu Sarikei where you will meet and share stories with a local tribe. 


This varied tour has a maximum of 10 people only and includes 12 nights accommodation, all sightseeing, most meals, professional guides and much more. Choose from many departure dates from now until March 2020.

DAY 1: Arrive Borneo ~ Sepilok

Your amazing holiday to Borneo begins with an airport pick up at Sandakan airport and transfer to Sepilok Jungle Resort. On arrival, check-in, unwind, and relax for the rest of the day in the pool and the beautiful natural surroundings of the Resort.

DAY 2: Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre ~ Sun Bear Conservation Centre 

This morning we visit Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre in time for the morning feeding and learn about the conservation and rehabilitation efforts of Sepilok. Witness the majestic Orangutan swing through the forest towards the feeding platform and watch as these beautiful creatures enjoy their breakfast. Afterwards we make a visit to see the World's most smallest bear in their natural habitat at the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre. Enjoy lunch back at the resort and relax in the resorts pool and tropical surroundings until 3pm when you can go back to the afternoon feeding at the Orangutan sanctuary. The afternoon is a much less busier time to see these incredible animals and take photos. Evening at leisure in the Jungle Resort.

DAY 3: Sepilok ~ Libaran Island

After breakfast (9:30am) we transfer to the Sandakan Jetty and board the boat to Libaran Island. The trip takes around 30 minutes and on arrival you will check in and enjoy free time to explore this beautiful quiet island, relax on the decking or take a stroll along the long stretch of sandy beach. After lunch we take a guided walk through a local village and learn about their lifestyle. At 6:00pm there will be a briefing about the turtle's conservation program, followed by a visit to the hatchery and an opportunity to release baby turtles back to the Sulu Sea. Have dinner and watch a documentary, then, a waiting game for the ranger call for the mother turtle sighting. If we are lucky enough we will witness mother turtles coming to shore to lay their eggs in the sand.

DAY 4: Libaran Island ~ Bilit, Kinabantangan River

Back to the mainland we go this morning. Once back in Sandakan proceed to Sandakan War Memorial Park before heading overland to our adventure lodge on the banks of the Kinabatangan River. On arrival into Bilit we have a spot of lunch before jumping on our first wildlife boat cruise down the river. Keep your eyes peeled for wildorangutans, Proboscis monkeys, Pygmy Elephants and lots of exotic birdlife! Evening free at leisure or take an optional guided night jungle walk to spot the nocturnal wildlife.

DAY 5: Bilit, Kinabatangan River ~ Tree Planting Activity

Early morning start as we cruise along the Kinabatangan River at 6:00am in search for more wild and wonderful wildlife, then back to the lodge for breakfast. After breakfast we visit a local village and take part in a tree planting activity to do our part for the conservation of the jungle. Then we take a guided jungle walk through riverine forest and search for bird life. Trek back to Bilit Lodge, freshen up, have lunch and enjoy the second river cruise of the day in search for more wildlife. Spend the evening at leisure enjoying a cold beer and sharing your photos from the day with fellow travellers.

DAY 6: Bilit ~ Sandakan

After breakfast, we depart Bilit by 8:30am and return to Sandakan. Have lunch in the hotel and enjoy the afternoon and evening at your own leisure or take our optional excursion to the Fishermans Village and Firefly River Cruise.

DAY 7: Sandakan Free Day or Optional Day Tour

Enjoy a full day in Sandakan today to explore the city at your own pace or simply relax in the hotel grounds and pool. Alternatively you can take an optional tours: 1. Sandakan Nature City Tour OR 2. Sandakan City Tour & Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary.

Day 8: Sandakan - Kuching [flight not included]

After breakfast and check out you will be transferred to the airport for your onward flight to Kuching to embark on the second part of you amazing holiday to Borneo.

Upon arrival in Kuching be met at the ariport and transferred to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at your own leisure to explore this new city.

DAY 9: Bako National Park Day Trip

One of the best places in Sarawak to see wildlife in a natural setting. Commonly spotted at Bako are the Borneo endemic proboscis monkeys, silvered langurs (monkeys), long-tailed macaques, wild boar, monitor lizards and numerous species of birds. The park has an impressive range of forest types from mangrove to kerangas (heath forest), tropical swamp vegetation, cliff vegetation and beach vegetation. A trail network provides access to different parts of the depending on level of fitness and areas of interest. The park’s spectacular coastline is dotted with small bays, coves and beaches.


Pick up from hotel, 35 minutes drive to Bako village, proceed by boat for approximately 30 minutes to the park headquarters. En route there is a chance to see crocodiles, sea eagles and other shore birds.  Arrive at the park HQ and begin exploring the trails and searching for wildlife.  Return to Kuching mid-afternoon.

DAY 10: Semenggoh Orangutan Centre

Breakfast in the hotel.  Pick up and depart for Semenggoh Wildlife Centre, located 24 kilometres from the centre of Kuching. This orangutan rehabilitation centre trains orphaned or rescued orangutans how to survive in the wild.  Over 20 orangutans live in forest within the nature reserve and often return to the centre at feeding times. Upon arrival, head to the briefing area.  After a brief talk from the rangers, take a short walk along a trail to the feeding area to watch the orangutans come down from the trees for a free meal. Return back to city and have the rest of the day at your own leisure.

DAY 11: Kuching ~ Sarikei ~ Ulu Sarikei

Depart from Kuching by local express boat (fast passenger ferry) to Sarikei.  Sarikei also known as “Food Basket” & “Pineapple Town”, you’ll get to savor local delicacies for lunch at local open air restaurant or coffee shop.  Continue by land to Ulu Sarikei Countryside.  View the hilly scenery on the way with some peppers vineyards, rubber trees, rice paddy even longhouses just by the roadside.


Upon arrival longhouse, a warm welcoming by your host and brief you some longhouse information and culture.  Go for some village walk in the evening, see the friendly local community. Come back in time before sunset. Prepare local meals for dinner such as the Pansuh (chicken meat cooked in bamboo) and taste the Tuak (rice wine) together with your host. After dinner, relaxing and sharing stories & legends with the host in the Ruai (Veranda). Retreat for the night.

DAY 12: Ulu Sarikei ~ Sibu

Wake up early morning and join the villagers to experience local rubber tapping activity.  Feel the tough job of how extract natural rubber latex come from and also process the rubber sheet.


Back to longhouse for breakfast & rest.  Embark on your journey through the still green and undisturbed forest, with sightings of flora and fauna all the way.  Here, you can understand how the local people say “Rainforest is the biggest supermarket for free”.  View up close and personal with some of plants and herbs that the locals normally use for food or medical purpose and even for making ink as the base for Pua Kumbu.  Enjoy some splashing moment and fun at the simple yet naturally beautiful water steam.  Prepare and enjoy lunch in the middle of the rainforest while the sound of nature and gushing waterfall echoes in the background.  Return back to longhouse and get yourself clean up and refresh before journey to Sibu. 


Upon arrival Sibu, check-in Hotel for a rest. Join us on a tour to the mind boggling Sibu Night Market, which is opened every night except when there is heavy rain.  Be amazed by the food, gadgets, textiles, utensils & all things interesting at this amazing place.

DAY 13: Sibu City Tour - Departure

After Breakfast, take a leisurely stroll on a beautiful esplanade alongside Malaysia’s longest river – The Mighty Rajang River.  Watch how the locals stock up their “Floating Grocery Stores” that serve riverine folks.  Walk on to a beautifully crafted Chinese Temple, climb up the Seven Storey Pagoda and take a panoramic view of SIbu’s waterfront life.


Then cut across the winding streets of Old Sibu Town and soak in the sights and smells of pastries baking in earthen ovens, alley ways small businesses that provides priceless photo opportunities.  After this journey back into time, walk onto to the biggest Central Market in Malaysia – home to more than 1,200 stalls serving up a bedazzling variety of commodities. Seek out the live chicken stalls and find out how they are bundled with newspapers. You will get a real feel of how the people of Sibu live and get to see seasonal fruits, catches that are unique to Sibu.


The Making of Longevity Noodles

The longevity noodles are an indispensable dish in birthday & wedding celebration and festival. Since noodles are long and continuous in shape, it symbolizes good health and longevity to have noodles in birthday and traditional festival.

Visit a village house to witness how local process the longevity Noodles in the traditional way.  Especially the difference between handmade and by machine.  From processing to pulling the noodles, drying under the sun and collect it back to store into the bag.  The quality and portion of flour, weather and humidity will also affected the quality of noodles.


Late afternoon transfer to Sibu Airport for your onward flight. End of Tour.
