Explore the wild side of Borneo with our brand new 8 Day tour of Sarawak including return flights from Australia. This adventurous tour includes a visit to Sarawak Cultural Village where you will meet local ethnic tribes living in their traditional Long Houses, an exciting wildlife river cruise through the Santubong Peninsular in search for Irrawaddy dolphins, fireflies, crocodiles and proboscis monkeys. You will explore the famous Bako National Park, one of the best places in Borneo to see wildlife in natural habitats including many types of monkeys. We visit our friends, the orangutans, at Semmenggoh Organutan Rehabilitation Centre before heading up into the breathtaking Borneo highlands.

DAY 1: Depart Australia ~ Kuching, Borneo

Depart from either Melbourne or Brisbane on Royal Brunei Airlines for your flight to Borneo!  Upon arrival at Kuching airport you will be met by our tour representative and transferred to your hotel.

DAY 2: Kuching Free Day

Spend the day at leisure exploring this bustling Asian city. Take a stroll along the waterfront, located within walking distance to your hotel and try some delicious local food Kuching is famous for.

DAY 3: Sarawak Cultural Village - Mangrove Cruise

After breakfast at the hotel, you will depart for a Sarawak Cultural Village tour. Popularly known as the ‘Living Museum’, the Village is a showcase of a kaleidoscope of Sarawak’s cultures and traditions. On arrival, you will explore the 7 authentic replicas of ethnic houses; Chinese Farm House, Malay Stilted House, Melanau Tall House, Penan Hut as well as Longhouse of the Iban, Bidayuh and Orang Ulu. arts and crafts like beadwork, wood and bamboo carvings, "Pua" weaving and straw weaving can be seen while touring the Village. You will also be entertained with 45 minutes of the traditional dances of the various ethnic tribes of Sarawak at the Village theatre. Cultural lunch served at Budaya Restaurant in the village.

In the evening, you will proceed a wildlife and nature viewing cruise. Mangrove Cruise Proceed for evening wildlife & nature watching cruise. This tour takes you around the rivers of the Santubong Peninsular, offering you the chance to see some of Sarawak’s fascinating wildlife. The cruise starts at the Santubong Village, from there your boat cruises to the mouth of the Santubong River (where Irrawaddy dolphins are often spotted). Your boat then roams the mangrove lined rivers looking for wildlife. As the light starts to fade, we go in search of the rare proboscis monkey. Small groups are often seen on the treetops at the water’s edge, settling down for the night. As dusk arrives we search for fireflies and crocodiles. Crocodiles are often seen on the mud banks and brightly shining crocodile eyes can be spotted when a torch light is passed over the river. After searching for crocodiles your boat proceeds further up river where fireflies gather at night. Watch the fireflies move around the branches of the mangroves, momentarily lighting up the night sky. After enjoying a firefly light show you will return to the jetty. You will then be transferred back to your hotel for the night.

DAY 4: Bako National Park 

After breakfast at the hotel, you will depart for a 45 minute drive to Bako Village. You will then proceed on a boat minutes to reach the centre of the Park. En route there is a chance to see crocodiles, sea eagles and other shore birds. Arrive at the park HQ and begin exploring the trails and searching for wildlife.  Bako National Park is popularly known as one of the best places in Sarawak to see wildlife in a natural setting. Commonly spotted at Bako are the Borneo endemic proboscis monkeys, silvered langurs (monkeys), long-tailed macaques, wild boar, monitor lizards and numerous species of birds. The park has an impressive range of forest types from mangrove to kerangas (heath forest), tropical swamp vegetation, cliff vegetation and beach vegetation. A trail network provides access to different parts of the depending on level of fitness and areas of interest. The park’s spectacular coastline is dotted with small bays, coves and beaches.

DAY 5: Semmenggoh Orangutan Centre ~ Borneo Highlands

Breakfast in the hotel. Pick up and depart for Semenggoh Wildlife Centre, located 24 kilometres from the centre of Kuching. This orangutan rehabilitation centre trains orphaned or rescued orangutans how to survive in the wild.  Over 20 orangutans live in forest within the nature reserve and often return to the centre at feeding times. Upon arrival, head to the briefing area. After a brief talk from the rangers, take a short walk along a trail to the feeding area to watch the orangutans come down from the trees for a free meal. After that, transfer to Borneo Highlands Resort. After dinner, proceed to Highland Night Safari if the weather is good.

DAY 6: Borneo Highlands ~ Kuching

Breakfast at the resort. Morning proceed visit to the Kalimantan View Point, Flower Gardens, Organic Farm and etc. Check-out and return back to Kuching.  Time to walk around Kuching downtown, a bustling, diverse city of old colonial buildings and modern towers. Along its Sarawak River waterfront are food vendors, shophouses selling handicrafts and an esplanade with views of 19th-century landmarks: The Astana, former palace of the White Rajahs, and Fort Margherita, built to thwart pirates.

DAY 7: Departure 

Enjoy your final breakfast at the hotel and after check out you will be transferred to the airport in time for your midday flight home.

DAY 8: Arrive Australia  

This morning you will arrive back in Australia and your holiday to Borneo has come to an end. We hope you had a holiday to remember!

DAY 7: Kuching ~ Brunei

This morning you will be transferred to Kuching airport for your short flight to Brunei. Upon arrival, at approx 2pm, You will be transferred to your hotel. The remainder of the day is free at your own leisure or you can take an optional tour.

DAY 8: Ulu Temburong National Park 

After breakfast, pick up from the hotel’s lobby for Ulu Temburong National Park Day trip. The National Park is situated within the Batu Apoi Forest reserves and lies at the confluence of the Temburong and Belalong Rivers. Covering an area of 50,000 hectares, only 100 hectares is designated as park visitation area, thus the park is a safe haven for flora and fauna. There is no human or modern encroachment in this area except for the field research centre in Ulu Belalong. The biodiversity of this area is one of the best in the world. The journey to the national park itself is an adventure where you go pass winding river tributaries lined with nipah palms and mature mangrove trees. Upon reaching Bangar town, we proceed by land to Batang Duri jetty where you will be transported to the national park using long boat called “temuai” driven by skilled locals maneuvering pass several rapids. When we reach the Ulu Ulu Resort, we will pass by the beautiful Villas with elegant accommodation. We will then proceed to the Club Lounge for Welcome Drink while viewing some exhibits and specimens from the National Park, and take a walk to the nearby, Souvenirs, Gifts & Sundries shop. After doing the activities, we proceed to the Dining hall at Valley Cafe for Lunch. For the afternoon you will be given two options:

OPTION A is the Canopy Walk. The Canopy Tower itself, requires approx 850 steps going up hill, you will reach the canopy tower which consist of 5 aluminium structure, averaging 40 – 50 meters in height.

OPTION B is to stay and relax in the Resort. Ulu Ulu Resort sits on the edge of the 50,000 hectares of pristine rainforest. This location has observation decks, areas where you can relax on the hammocks, good range of flowers, trees, herbs and other plants that attract birds, insects, butterflies, for you to observe or take a photograph. If time permits, you will have the chance to do water tubing in the Temburong River and trekking to the mini water fall. After which, you can enjoy a hot shower at Ulu Ulu Resort. 1 Bath Towel will be provided per person. (Free flow of coffee and tea. The resort’s drinking water is pumped from the river and go through a 5-stage particle filtration and a final stage through a drinking water filtration. The water is not chlorinated).

DAY 9: Brunei City Tour ~ Departure

In the morning, pick up from the hotel’s lobby for Bandar Splendour tour – 4 Hrs. This comprehensive tour will give you an insight on Brunei’s history, religion, culture and heritage. The tour covers the Royal Regalia Museum, home to a collection of royal regalia, royal chariot, gold and silver ceremonial armory and the spectacular Jame’ Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque, which has twenty-nine 22K golden-topped domes. You will also visit the Malay Technology Museum which has galleries that display the lifestyles of the Malays and ethnic tribes. There will be a short photo stop of the magnificent Istana Nurul Iman, the largest residential palace in the world from Damuan Park. Lastly, you will take an enjoyable boat ride on the Kampong Ayer, one of the world’s largest water villages and visit a local house to enjoy local delicacies. Free at leisure until transfer to the airport for your onward flight.

DAY 10: Arrive Australia

This morning you will arrive back to Australia after your amazing holiday to Borneo and Brunei.
