9 Day Mysteries of Myanmar Tour

Explore the mysteries of Myanmar with our 9 day itinerary to all the classic highlights of this new and exciting country. Start in Mandalay and enjoy sightseeing tours of religious monuments and temples. Visit local work shops and observe age-old techniques of silk weaving and marble carving. Walk along the famous 200 year old U-Bein bridge at sunset and relax on a 1 hour cruise in Mingun to see the impressive Pahtodawgyi Pagoda. Next, visit Bagan; the city of 4 million pagodas and feel like Indian Jones as you explore these ancient relics on your day of leisure. The itinerary ends in tranquil Inle Lake, with relaxing a sightseeing tour amongst the floating villages and gardens to witness local rural life.

DAY 1: Mandalay

Your holiday to Myanmar begins with an airport pick by a tour representative and transferred to your hotel in Mandalay. The rest of the day is free at leisure.

DAY 2: Mandalay Sightseeing

Experience the sights and sounds of Mandalay including of the most revered religious monument in Myanmar – “Mahamuni Pagoda & Mahamuni Buddha Image”. Several shops around the temple sell offerings for the Mahamuni Buddha image such as incense sticks, candles and flowers. Afterwards, we visit the ancient ruins of Royal Palace, a superb example of a traditional
architecture which retained the original design and some traditional construction techniques that were used before.
In the afternoon, we visit of Kuthodaw Pagoda which is also called “the world’s largest book”, named after the 729 marble slabs inscribed with Buddhist teachings. Proceed to Mandalay Hill to enjoy the panoramic
view of the city. At the top you will be welcomed by clusters of pagoda and monasteries. Continue drive to Amarapura - famous for its weaving and the most beautiful and expensive clothes are hand embroidered – these would be mostly used for bridal gowns or worn only by very wealthy women. Visit a traditional hand – woven silk workshop as well as Kalaga tapestries craftsmen’s shop followed by Gold leaf work shop, wood and marble carving workshop. A highlight of Mandalay is a visit of the 200-year-old U Bein teak bridge for sunset, built in 1782 and the oldest teak bridge
in the world is made from the remains of a royal palace.

DAY 3: Mandalay ~ Mingun ~ Ava ~ Sagaing

After breakfast, transfer to Mandalay jetty for a relaxing 1 hour cruise to Mingun. Once in Mingun, you will be welcomed by the sheer size of Pahtodawgyi Pagoda - well known for being the world’s largest unfinished pagoda.Then just a short walk from it, go to Hsinbyume Pagoda, this may be a lot smaller than the Pahtodawgyi Pagoda but it is just as impressive because of its pure white color which makes it absolutely stunning. Next, you might want to snap a photo with the heaviest functioning non-cracked bell in the world the Mingun Bell. After lunch, continue to Inwa (also known as Ava), a former royal capital of Myanmar Kingdom where you will explore the ruins of the old royal capital including the watchtower, the Maha Aungmye Bonzan monastery and the Bargaya monastery, a splendid teak wood monastery. Return to the hotel and spend the evening at leisure.

DAY 4:  Mandalay ~ Bagan

Enjoy a relaxing free and easy morning before taking a scheduled afternoon express bus from Mandalay to Bagan (approx. 3-4 hours). Upon arrival in Bagan you will check in to your hotel and the rest of the day is at your own leisure.

DAY 5: Bagan 

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel, then our English-speaking guide will escort you on a sightseeing tour of the most ancient pagodas of Bagan, including: Shwezigon Pagoda- one of the oldest and most impressive monuments of Bagan. Visit Gu Byanuk Gyi - a temple noteworthy for its mural paintings under the protection of UNESCO. You will continue to Manuha Temple, built in Mon style that enshrines four large gold painted images of the Buddha and Ananda Temple, which has four standing Buddha images at its corners. After lunch appreciate how art is made as you visit a lacquerware craftsmen’s workshop - one of Myanmar’s most treasured handicrafts and sightseeing in the Nyaung Oo Market to experience local ways of trading. Before leaving the village an extra lesson in the details of Myanmar life with a Thanaka (traditional Burmese makeup) and Longyi (traditional clothing) wearing demonstration. One thing you should not really miss in Bagan, is watching the marvelous sunset that will surely give you a different experience from all the other places in the world. Evening at your own leisure.

DAY 6: Bagan Free Day

Today enjoy a full day at your own leisure to spend in the mysterious city of Bagan; the city of 4 million pagodas.

DAY 7: Bagan ~ Inle Lake

After breakfast and check our we transfer to the airport for a short flight to Heho, the gateway to the breathtaking Inle Lake. Upon arrival, transfer to  Nyaung Shwe then, to Inle Lake by a boat ride. An active adventure awaits today with a boat trip through rural villages on Inle Lake. Admire the beautiful floating gardens and also witness the locals with their unusual technique of traditional fishing method, the one-legged rowing. Visit of the "Shwe Yan Pyay Monastery” This small but elegant monastery that dates back to 19th century is a beautiful red-painted teak building possesses sophisticatedly carved structures on laminated gold teak wood as well as elegant statues and complicated embellishment. After lunch we visit the main sanctuary of the lake, the "Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda” the holiest religious site in Southern Shan state which houses fives mall gilded images of Buddha, which have been covered in gold leaf. Visit to "Inpawkhon”, the famous weaving centre of the Intha people (locals of Inle Lake) Lotus root strands are woven together to make cloth, used to create the traditional longyi. After that discover a cheroot factory and observe local Burmese roll cigars by hand. Evening at your own leisure

DAY 8: InLe Lake 

Today we visit one of the popular attractions of Inle Lake; the morning market that rotates through five different sites around the lake. This is mainly visited by inhabitants of the lake and tribes of the surrounding hills to sell and market their products. Meet the "Padaung’’, an ethnic tribe that wears silver ring necklaces to have longer necks. The tribe has preserved their unique customs until today including wearing many necklaces to have longer neck. After lunch, enjoy another boat ride to Indein the home of the Pa-oh tribe. Along the way, you will be greeted by many ancient pagodas in many shapes and sizes and in various states of preservation. Upon arrival, explore the area on foot and visit a local school. Have a stroll Nyaung Ohak, and discover the impressive ruins of hundreds of ancient pagodas. From Nyaung Ohak, go to Shwe Inn Thein, where you can find a second group of pagodas at the top of the hill which will give you a better view of the whole area.  Return to the hotel and spend the evening at leisure.

DAY 9: Departure

After breakfast at hotel and check out, you will be transferred to the airport for your onward flight.

DAY 9: Inle Lake ~ Yangon

Transfer to the airport for a short flight to Yangon. Enjoy private tour and drive through downtown to explore the city centre and its fabulous mix of architecture and sites. The streets are filled with historical buildings many of which have a faded colonial charm not seen elsewhere in Asia. You’ll start at the post office – a lovely historic building, passing by Strand Hotel, Mahabandoola Garden and Independence Monument along the way. In the afternoon we visit the most famous landmark...Nothing will prepare you for Shwedagon Pagoda, with its glittering gold stupa. At the pagoda observe local pilgrims and monks offering their devotions and enjoy the amazing sunset view at Shwedagon pagoda. Evening at your own leisure.

DAY 10: Yangon 

After breakfast we begin a tour around Yangon. First off we visit famous Chauk Htat Kyi, home to a 70-meter long reclining Buddha. The feet of the statue carved with traditional symbols and often many locals gathering to pay homage and pray. Photo stop at the Karaweik Hall royal floating barge.
Atter lunch, visit one of the most major bazaars in Yangon the, Bogyoke Aung San Market or Scott’s Market. A place that surely you don’t want to miss. It is known for its colonial architecture and inner cobblestone streets, variety of handicrafts, gems and jewel shops, art galleries, clothing and garment stores, traditional medicine, local delicacies and even foreign goods. (note: closed on Mondays and public holidays). Return to hotel and evening at leisure.

DAY 11: Departure
