the tour

Japan snow packages are here! Enjoy 7 nights at the super friendly Pension Folktale in Hakuba with ski-in ski out access.  Most meals cooked for you and free range of the Cortina Ski Resort!

Hakuba is a village in the Japanese Alps, just outside the city of Nagano, which was host of the 1998 Winter Olympics. It encompasses stunning mountain resorts with terrain for snowboarding, skiing and hiking. There are 10 mountains and numerous runs of all levels in the Hakuba range, all within close distance and reached by the local shuttle bus. It’s less crowded than the popular Niseko resort, giving you deep fresh powder to carve up for yourself every day.  As well as a lively après-ski scene and numerous hot springs. The different mountains offer a variety of runs from beginner to advanced, as well as off-piste back country and challenging tree runs!

Accommodation and Food

Pension Folktale is a family run bed and breakfast with ski-in ski-out access. Mr and Mrs Suzuki run the pension and they are the most incredible hosts.  Mr Suzuki is an ex-professional ski jumper with countless trophies on display around the pension.  He can organise back-country hiking tours for something different. Mrs Suzuki prepares the most incredible meals during your stay. Breakfast and dinner every day is like a gourmet feast that will give you all the energy you need for a day on the slopes. As an ex-chef in a French Michelin Star kitchen, Mrs Suzuki’s cooking is a mix of French and Japanese and is to die for!

Itinerary

DAY 1: Arrive Hakuba

You are required to get yourself to Hakuba bus or train station where you will be picked up by Mr Suzuki and transferred to the Pension. Details on getting to Hakuba from Tokyo are in the fine print. It’s easy. The rest of the day is at leisure to sort out lift tickets and gear hire and get ready for a week on the slopes.

MEALS: Dinner

OVERNIGHT: Pension Folktale, Hakuba

DAY 2: Free Time ~ Ski Cortina

The next few days are at your own leisure to explore the slopes on the nearby mountains. Pension Folktale has ski-in ski-out access to Cortina mountain, which has a high variety of runs for all skill levels, including black, tree runs and off-piste back country. In our opinion this mountain is the best in the range!

MEALS: Breakfast, Dinner

OVERNIGHT: Pension Folktale, Hakuba

DAY 3: Free Time ~ Ski Cortina

You can see the lifts turn on (8am sharp) from the breakfast room at the Suzuki’s so be prepared to strap on your boots and board and head out the door! This evening perhaps take advantage of your luxury onsen tour to soak your tired muscles. This tour needs to be arranged directly with the Suzuki’s during your stay. You can go anytime!

MEALS: Breakfast, Dinner

OVERNIGHT: Pension Folktale, Hakuba

DAY 4: Free Time ~ Ski Cortina

Another day could easily be spent exploring the many runs on Cortina mountain. There are many options for lunch so treat yourself with a steaming bowl of ramen and some yummy gyozas.

MEALS: Breakfast, Dinner

OVERNIGHT: Pension Folktale, Hakuba

DAY 5: Free Day ~ Explore Another Mountain

To mix it up a bit ee would suggest taking the local shuttle bus and go to one of the nearby mountains, or exploring the mountain next-door; Norikora. Also accessible with Ski-in Ski-out access from the Pension. To Explore other mountains in the Hakuba area you can take the local shuttle with a set rate of ¥500 each way to any mountain! Happo-One is the main one in this range with many restaurants, a ski school, kids play area and a gondala to take you up to very high and wide runs. No tree runs allowed on this mountain but it is good to experience something different.

Note: Lift passes are not included to any other mountain

MEALS: Breakfast, Dinner

OVERNIGHT: Pension Folktale, Hakuba

DAY 6: Free Day ~ Suggested Day Trip

If you are are staying for 7 nights, we would suggest a rest-day and a visit to the Jigokudani Snow Monkeys. You can get there by public transport which is super easy. Mr and Mrs Suzuki can help you with directions and you can buy a bus ticket at the local station.

MEALS: Breakfast, Dinner

OVERNIGHT: Pension Folktale, Hakuba

DAY 7: Free Day ~ Ski Cortina

Make the most out of your last day in this beautiful place! We suggest hitting the Cortina slopes all day to beat any PB’s you made during the week!

MEALS: Breakfast, Dinner

OVERNIGHT: Pension Folktale, Hakuba

Unfortunately your ski holiday to Japan has come to an end. You will be transferred to the local bus/train station for your return back to Toyko.
