Day 1: Arrive Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia ~ City Tour

Welcome to Mongolia. On arrival at Ulaanbaatar International Airport, you will be met by the local team and transferred into the city to begin your Mongolian adventure.

After lunch, set out to explore Ulaanbaatar, beginning at Sukhbaatar Square, the city’s impressive central plaza surrounded by some of the capital’s most important landmarks. Continue to the Chinggis Khaan National Museum, where fascinating exhibits bring Mongolia’s remarkable history to life, including the impressive golden statue of the Great Khan.

WHAT TYPE OF TRANSPORT IS USED?

Transportation throughout the tour is provided by 4WD Toyota vehicles, Hyundai minivans or a minibus, depending on the number of passengers travelling. Smaller groups generally travel in one vehicle, while larger groups may use multiple vehicles during the Gobi Desert touring sections.

 

WHAT ARE THE GER CAMPS LIKE?

Most nights outside Ulaanbaatar are spent in traditional Ger Camps, offering an authentic Mongolian travel experience. Standard gers do not have private bathroom facilities, with shared bathroom and shower facilities available at the camps. A deluxe ger with an ensuite private bathroom may be available at selected camps for an additional charge, subject to availability.

 

HOW MUCH DRIVING IS INVOLVED?

This is an overland adventure covering approximately 2,400 kilometres across Mongolia. Daily driving distances vary, with several touring days covering between approximately 200 and 400 kilometres. Travellers should be comfortable with extended periods of road travel through remote desert and steppe landscapes.

 

HOW MUCH LUGGAGE CAN I BRING?

A specific luggage allowance has not been advised by the local operator. As the tour uses 4WD vehicles, minivans and minibuses, and travels through remote areas, we recommend packing practically and avoiding excessive or oversized luggage.

 

HOW DIFFICULT IS THE WALKING?

The tour includes regular walking and several scenic treks across natural and uneven terrain. These include exploring the granite formations of Baga Gazariin Chuluu, walking along the cliffs of Tsagaan Suvarga, trekking through Yol Valley, climbing the Khongor Sand Dunes and a light trek near Ongi Monastery. Guests should have a reasonable level of mobility and be comfortable walking on uneven surfaces.
